“I’m right and you’re wrong, I’m big and you’re small, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

This quote from Matilda, by Roald Dahl applies equally well to #business as #bullying.

Most of the companies I have worked in stated explicitly “My way or the highway”, so naturally I pretended to do it their way — while in the words of Frank Sinatra, I really did it “My Way”.

I remember when I moved back into Telco in 2001 my boss explained that what they were really looking for was a “recently divorced man, who didn’t mind travelling 85% of the time because he needed the money”.

I had no intention of being away from home for 85% of my time as I was happily married, and I still am, my answer was “Not a problem” — but I never travelled more than 50% as I knew the secret of adding value.

Asking # permission always fails, the path to becoming # indispensable is generating value and # forgiveness follows.
